| Sr. Magdalene with Presiding Bishop Katherine Jefferts-Schori |
Sr. Magdalene entered the Order of St. Helena on October 13, 2001 and took her Life Vow on November 19, 2006. She is currently attending General Theological Seminary as a postulant for holy orders, expecting to graduate in the Spring of 2009. Magdalene intends to return to the Augusta Convent where she will re-join the Guest Team and learn how to integrate her priest and sister vocations. Magdalene will be co-leading a pilgrimage to Turkey with Sr. Cintra Pemberton June 6-19, 2008 (see link!!) Magdalene’s current ministries in the order include Chairperson of the Board of Directors and President of Corporation.
Magdalene is looking forward to this middler year at seminary. She will be working at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration (The Little Church Around the Corner) for her seminary field placement. Since its founding in 1848, Transfiguration has been a leader of the Anglo Catholic movement within the Episcopal Church. The parish has a long history of service to the poor and oppressed, along with its rich history of elaborate worship. It happens to be just “around the corner” from the Order’s Manhattan house and is Magdalene’s favorite place to worship in the city. She feels very lucky to be under the instruction of the Rt. Rev. Andrew St. John, the Australian rector of Transfiguration.
Magdalene is a mother and grandmother. Her daughter and son-in-law live in Athens, GA with their two children, Allison (4 years) and Henry (3 years). Her son and his fiancée live in Eureka, CA. Magdalene’s parent’s live in Southern CA, where she was born, in 1952. She loves walking around New York City, going to the movies, and visiting her grandchildren whenever possible. She thoroughly enjoys being a "Manhattanite" and feels very loved and supported by the OSH sisters in our Manhattan house. She wouldn't be flourishing in seminary if it weren't for them!
