Newburgh Peace Project, Summer 2007

Newburgh Peace Project group

This picture was taken August 2007. I’m in the middle row in a pink shirt and the shot shows me as just one of the group that was the Newburgh Peace Project. Not all the people involved in the NPP are pictured, but this is one of my favorite images because it shows the group’s marvelous diversity. My passion for peace and justice led me to find people who wanted to cross paths with those different from themselves and invite them to come together and work for peace.

I hope this picture and the others that follow will inspire you to work for peace and never to loose hope that we SHALL overcome someday.

The original caption for this picture in our playbill read: DIVERSITY IN UNITY, PERFORMANCE EVENT. Tonight’s performance is the work of a unique mix of people who worked for thirteen intense summer evenings to create it. The story is pure myth told in energized images and the hybrid tongue of the urban Hudson region. In the beginning, the pairs of opposites form the universe and mutate into swirling colors. Blue, Yellow and Red Monster-Beings come forth and give birth to dancing creatures like themselves. Food on the table is given. Shall it be fought over or shall it be shared? It is the ancient and simple plot of life on this planet. We hope you enjoy our version and perhaps be inspired to share more and more of whatever it is you have. This performance is made possible through the free sharing of talent, time and wealth of many people.
