The Order of Saint Helena

Sisters in Georgia
Sisters of Saint Helena in Augusta GA
The Order of St. Helena is a religious order for lay and ordained women in the Episcopal Church. We witness to a contemporary interpretation of traditional monasticism, open to the leading of the Holy Spirit as we proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ. Since our founding in 1945, our experience of the religious life has included: prayer, the individual, the Church at large, and social action.

Where We Are and How We Got There

Sr. Mary Michael Simpson By The Rev Canon Mary Michael Simpson, OSH.
“I do not know what the Order of St Helena will be after all the change we are going through, but suspect it will be as different from what we are now as the community in 1980 was from that of 1945.” Read Sr Mary Michael’s full reflection on "Where We Are and How We Got There".

Foolishness and Wisdom

Sr. Mag's ordination A Sermon for the Finding of the Cross preached by Sister Ellen Stephen, OSH May 3, 2009

In his first letter to the church in Corinth, Paul writes: “The message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing.” Now why would that be?...

OSH Relocation to Augusta GA

In August 2008, the sisters of the Order of Saint Helena made the decision to close our convents in Vails Gate NY and in Manhattan and to relocate most of the sisters to our convent in Augusta GA. We made this decision based on the increasing cost of maintaining three convents and on our desire to use our sister-power more efficiently.

Ultimately, it is our intention to look for a new piece of property in a diocese and location as yet unknown where we can build a new, green, efficient convent.

Sr. Barbara Lee, OSH is planning to move from Seattle WA to Augusta in the near future. The Rev. Sr. Jean Campbell, OSH will continue to live in Hughsonville, NY and to serve as rector at Trinity, Fishkill, NY.

We ask your prayers and support as we continue this journey of faith.
